STATEMENT As an artist, I find great fascination in exploring the realms of history, myth, memory, and time. Through my creative practice, I strive to merge various artistic mediums, including photography and moving image, in search of an expressive language that can capture the essence and significance of our complex world. My work delves into the intricate tapestry of human existence, aiming to shed light on the diverse issues, problems, moments of joy, and inherent chaos that permeate our surroundings. I am driven by a deep desire to comprehend and give tangible form to the intangible aspects of life that shape our collective experiences. By intertwining different art forms, I strive to create visual narratives that resonate with viewers, inviting them to reflect, question, and engage with the intricate layers of our shared humanity. Through my artistic exploration, I seek to bring forth a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness, bridging gaps between past and present, reality and imagination. Alexander Rusevich is a versatile artist and filmmaker hailing from Riga, Latvia. His creative pursuits span across multiple artistic mediums, including painting, photography, and video. With a passion for storytelling, he skillfully weaves together narratives that captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact. In 2009, Rusevich's notable short film, "Forget-me-not," earned him the prestigious 1st prize in the 3rd International Short Film Competition of Goethe Institute, "Crossing Boundaries," held in Riga, Latvia. This recognition served as a testament to his talent and artistic vision. Furthermore, his 2011 short film, "Try on," received acclaim in the International program at the Zubroffka Film Festival in Bialystok, Poland. Rusevich embarked on his artistic journey by studying photography at Riga College in Latvia. In pursuit of expanding his artistic horizons, he ventured to the Center of Creative Studies in Detroit, USA, where he immersed himself in the world of painting in 2001. To enhance his understanding of the cinematic craft, Rusevich completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Academy of Culture of Latvia in 2008. Subsequently, he honed his skills in film directing by undertaking a Master of Arts program at the Latvian Academy of Culture in 2010. Throughout his career, Rusevich has demonstrated a dedication to his craft, pushing boundaries and experimenting with different artistic forms. His diverse background and training have shaped him into an artist and filmmaker with a unique perspective and a strong artistic voice. With each project he undertakes, Rusevich continues to explore new avenues of expression, crafting compelling narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide.
